Message from your Alumni Association President
Your UMass Amherst Alumni Association is a large, vibrant, dynamic and evolving organization. Since its founding in 1874, the Alumni Association has served to support our alma mater, to be a voice for alumni, to be a leader in encouraging alumni loyalty and involvement, and to be an advocate for our university.
It is with these thoughts in mind that I look forward with much enthusiasm and excitement to serving as your Alumni Association president for the next two years.
I would like to thank the Alumni Association’s Board of Directors for electing me president. It is a humbling honor to have earned their confidence. The past two years have been years of both transition and accomplishment for your Alumni Association.
Beginning in August 2008 we welcomed to campus four cornerstones for continued success: our new Chancellor, Dr. Robert C. Holub; Mr. Tom Milligan, executive vice chancellor for university relations; Ms. Anna Symington ’76S, ’79, ’83G, executive director for the UMass Amherst Alumni Association; and most recently, Mr. Michael Leto, vice chancellor for development and alumni relations.
The Career Connections program, a career development program for alumni, was in its infancy a little more than two years ago. Today it is one of the Alumni Association’s most popular, best attended, and in-demand programs. The same can also be said for the Campus to Career program, which helps current students prepare for life beyond UMass Amherst.
In addition to the ever-growing social and networking opportunities available nationally for alumni through Alumni Clubs, the Alumni Association is committed to expanding alumni and student engagement through online social networks like LinkedIn and Facebook, as well as the Association’s dedicated online community, MaroonCentral.
Moving forward, the Alumni Association, with your input and involvement, will continue to build upon these successes while developing new and engaging programs for both alumni and students. Your support is critical to our success and I look forward to working with you as we move forward.
Thank you,
Sean LeBlanc '88
