Grants
Each year, the Alumni Association awards $20,000 in grants of up to $2,000 each to Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) and Independent Student Groups (ISGs). Grants support a wide variety of activities that enhance the student experience, promote tradition, support academic excellence, reconnect alumni to the university, and increase the interaction between students and alumni. Distinguished Alumni Award
Honoring alumni from the University of Massachusetts Amherst who have translated their UMass Amherst experience into distinguished achievement in the public, business or professional realms. View 2008 recipients.
Distinguished Young Alumni Award
Honoring alumni who have attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst within the last 10 years and who have used their UMass Amherst education in a quest for excellence. View 2008 recipients.
Distinguished Alumni Service Award
Honoring alumni from the University of Massachusetts Amherst for recognition of outstanding and significant contributions of service to the university or to a particular community. View 2008 recipients.
Distinguished Faculty Award
Honoring University of Massachusetts Amherst faculty members who have shown exceptional skill in teaching. Their work should demonstrate the value place on teaching through credible contributions outside the classroom in research and/ or creative activity, or efforts that significantly enhance the well-being and reputation of the university within the community at large. Distinguished Honorary Alumni Award
Honoring individuals who have neither earned a degree nor were matriculated students for at least two consecutive semesters from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, but who have consistently demonstrated extraordinary commitment, dedication and service to the advancement of the University of Massachusetts Amherst campus.

Eleanor Bateman Distinguished Scholar in Residence
Established in 1989, this program promotes interaction between students and distinguished alumni and other individuals. It provides students with role models that exemplify the achievement of the university’s mission through professional accomplishments and public service. The Bateman Scholar’s visit to campus includes class lectures, workshops and a public forum open to the campus community.

Student Awards
21st Century Leaders Award
The 21st Century Leaders Award recognizes graduating seniors who are academically accomplished and who have contributed to the university by exceptional achievement or have enhanced the reputation of the campus. The recipients are nominated by faculty for strong leadership qualities; noteworthy original research; community service; the achievement of success by overcoming extraordinary personal circumstances, or public presentation through art, performance or athletic ability. The awards are presented during the Undergraduate Commencement celebrations each May.
Senior Leadership Award - view 2008 recipients
The Senior Leadership Award recognizes graduating seniors who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and service to the UMass Amherst community. Award recipients have distinguished themselves through important contributions to student organizations and campus jobs, through academic excellence, and through public and community service.

Center for Public Policy and Administration Alumni Association Public Service Award - view 2008 recipients
The Center for Public Policy and Administration Alumni Association Public Service Award provides fellowships to students in the Masters in Public Policy and Administration program who have demonstrated a past commitment and future potential for excellence and leadership in public service.

The Alumni Merit-Based Scholarship recognizes a Student Alumni Association member who demonstrates outstanding leadership in the Student Alumni Association and within the larger university community.

The Leaders in the Making Scholarship was established to support the pursuits of promising sophomores and juniors. Recipients have diverse records of achievement in scholarship and volunteerism, and are student role models. Click here for scholarship application (pdf).
Life Member Scholarship - view 2008 recipient
The Life Member Scholarship for Internships was created by the Alumni Association to defray the costs of internships for UMass Amherst students. The program was designed to support the academic and career pursuits of commendable students from diverse campus populations whose records suggest that they will develop into alumni with admirable leadership qualities upon graduation. Michael W. Morris Scholarship- view 2008 recipient
The Michael W. Morris Scholarship helps make the dream of a UMass Amherst education a reality to worthy students from Lowell or Lawrence, MA. The scholarship is named in honor of Lawrence native and longtime UMass Amherst champion, Michael W. Morris ’63, who served as president of the Alumni Association and remains a vital and active alumni ambassador. Applications are available to undergraduate students in the Lawrence and Lowell area during the spring semester.

Robert B. Collins ’19 Student Alumni Association Scholarship -

The Robert B. Collins ’19 SAA Scholarship was established through a bequest to provide scholarship assistance to active members of the Student Alumni Association who also have strong academic records.

William F. Field Alumni Scholars- view 2008 recipient
The William F. Field Alumni Scholars Program was established in 1976 to recognize and honor 60 third-year students for their academic achievements at UMass Amherst. The program was named in honor of William F. Field, the university’s first Dean of Students, for his outstanding support of academic excellence and his personal commitment to bringing out the best in every student.
